Phenotyping of seeds and automated planting of seeds to media

We are excited to announce that we now have Boxeed from Labdeers installed in the Plant Lab at UiO. With Boxeed we can offer automated imaging of single seeds combined with sorting of seeds depending on various criteria such as shape, size, color, fluorescence. The instrument is equipped with RGB and fluorescence sensors, and the robotics offers precise sorting to tubes or multi well plates or precise planting of seeds to agar in petri dishes or multi well plates.

Selection of seed from tubes in carousel, imaging of seed from different angles, precise planting of seed according to predefined planting matrix

Planting of seeds according to predefined planting matrix with millimeter precision.

Imaging of seeds from different angles and with red fluorescent protein (RFP) sensor

Boxeed analyze parameters describing seed color, seed roundness (L/S ratio), seed surface (SSE distribution) and seed size in pixels as well as length and width.

The Boxeed is installed in the Plant Lab at the Department of Biosciences, co localized with the research teams that will use the new instrument. If you are interested in analyzing or sorting your seeds, please contact the UiO PheNo team.
